Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Açaí to your diet:

  1. Promotes healthy skin tone: youthful, healthier- looking skin
  2. Improves circulation, especially to the extremities
  3. Boosts metabolism and suppresses appetite
  4. Increases energy and vitality
  5. Has powerful anti-inflammatory properties

The Açaí berry, a native of the Brazilian Rainforest, is a very special, little, purple berry that has a delicious, slightly tart, berry flavor with a hint of chocolate. Açaí has been a regular part the Brazilian people’s diet for centuries. The recorded history of Açaí goes back over 200 years and in that time there have been no adverse effects associated with its consumption.

Despite its small size (about 1 inch in diameter), it has been tied to amazing health benefits. Indigenous people have used Açaí as a basic food source, a topical ointment, and as a medicine for dealing with chronic illnesses. By adding Açaí to your diet, you can also experience a wide range of health benefits, including favorable responses to bacteria, viruses, carcinogens, free radicals, inflammation, and allergens.

Some rather remarkable stories of Açaí‘s nutritional potency, after prolonged use, has led many experts to call this fruit the “top super food on earth!” and the “#1 food you-may-not-have-heard-of- but-NEED- to- be- eating.”

Açaí has undergone numerous scientific studies in hopes to identify the particular proprieties responsible for the amazing results it produces. One such study was performed by the University of Florida in 2006. Their extensive research showed that Açaí berry extracts could effectively kill cancer cells.

There is ongoing research on Açaí‘s antioxidant activity. Theoretically, that activity may help prevent diseases, such as heart disease, which is caused in part by oxidative stress.

Key attributes of Açaí:

  • Is comprised of polyphenol antioxidants (over 50 known antioxidants) that help combat premature aging, with 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes
  • Contains 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine.
  • Is rich in healthy Omega fats (Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9).
  • Has an almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration
  • Includes an excellent source of Plant Sterols - B-sitosterol, campesterol and sigmasterol. (Plant sterols have been shown to have cholesterol-lowering properties in the human body.)
  • Embodies Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E
  • Has an abundant source of anthocyanins and flavonoids
  • Contains potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, and zinc

Brazilian athletes have known about this fruit for decades and have used it as their secret weapon to dominate in surfing and martial arts tournaments. If it helps these athletes have enough energy to make it through a grueling competition, it can certainly help you make it through your 9-5 work day!

The regular consumption of the Açaí berry can help you both gain and reap many health benefits.

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Capuacu to your diet:

  1. Stabilizes and neutralizes free radicals
  2. Increases mental function and alertness
  3. Strengthens the cardiovascular system
  4. Increases energy & stamina without caffeine
  5. Lowers cholesterol

Capuacu is widely regarded as one of the next big super foods. Its white pulp is uniquely fragrant (a mixture of chocolate and pineapple), while the juice tastes like a pear with a hint of banana. It is related to the Cocoa. Capuacu is considered a delicacy throughout South America and is used to make ice cream, juice, and various other sweet foods.

For thousands of years, the Capuacu fruit has been harvested in the Amazon rainforest for native people.

Capuacu is a "one stop shop" for antioxidant replenishment. It possesses an abundance of powerful antioxidants, including Vitamins A and C, and polyphenols (including a unique type of polyphenols, Antioxidant Phytonutrients, called “Theograndins”), truly making it a full spectrum of antioxidants. This incredible super food is also filled with essential fatty acids, amino acids, phosphorous, fiber, and vitamins B1, B2, and B3 (niacin).

Vitamin C is probably the most popular vitamin around. Everyone knows that if you aren't feeling well you are encouraged to consume extra vitamin C. Even though Vitamin C strengthens your immune system, it takes a complete vitamin C to do the job. What people see in most supplements or foods that are fortified with Vitamin C is actually ascorbic acid, a fraction of what is needed in the body. Capuacu is a complete source of Vitamin C containing; Rutin, Bioflavonoids (vitamin P), Factor K, Factor J, Factor P, Tyrosinase, Ascorbinogen, and Ascorbic Acid.

A complete Vitamin C does several things in your body that a synthetic C (ascorbic acid) alone cannot do; it:

  • Helps to form collagen, which is a key structural component of your bones, ligaments, tendons, and blood vessels
  • Acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting your cells against damage and premature aging due to free radicals, toxins, and other harmful substances that make their way into your blood
  • Prevents damage to fatty acids, amino acids, and glucose in your blood
  • Helps to make norepinephrine, a hormone that is essential to the health of your nervous system

Traditionally, Capuacu has been used to alleviate abdominal pain, as a stimulant (no caffeine) for increased energy and stamina, and has also been used by women who experience difficult labor pains and delivery.

Capuacu is a complete source of Vitamin C complex -- capable of efficiently nourishing every cell in the body!

Cha de Bugre

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Chá de Bugre to your diet:

  1. Dispenses smooth, clean energy
  2. Controls appetite (small meals)
  3. Prevents fatty deposits
  4. Stimulates circulation
  5. Relieves coughs

Chá de Bugre is a small tree with soft, green leaves found in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. Also known as Café do Mato (coffee of the woods), Chá de Bugre produces a small red fruit that resembles a coffee bean.

In Brazil, Chá de Bugre is hailed as the #1 weight loss supplement. Brazilians have long enjoyed this dynamic tea, praising it's abilities to suppress appetite, burn cellulite, and prevent fatty deposits.

Compounds in Chá de Bugre: powerful phytochemicals, naturally occurring caffeine, allantoin, and allantoic acid.
Chá de Bugre has much in common with Ephedra; yet, unlike Ephedra, it has a positive impact on the heart.
By far, the most popular reason people consume Chá de Bugre is for the energy it supplies.

Chá de Bugre is brewed in large drums during times of festivals in Brazil and the people consume it to sustain their energy throughout the night.
It is a very clean energy, meaning that the caffeine levels are surprisingly low, but the effects of a 500mg dose are the same as "2 Venti-sized coffees from Starbucks."

Orally, Chá de Bugre is used for promoting weight loss and dealing with obesity issues, including decreasing cellulite, helping to reduce fatty deposits, preserving muscle tissue, and dealing with edema, gout, cancer, herpes, viral infections, fever, and cardiovascular disease. It is also used as a general tonic to stimulate circulation and heart function, relieve coughs, support renal function, and reduce uric acid.

Topically, Chá de Bugre is used for healing wounds.

Chá de Bugre is a great appetite suppressant. However, rather than curbing your appetite altogether (then causing intense hunger when it wears off at the wrong time), it gives one a sense of being full and satiated after eating only a few bites of food. This seems to promote much smaller meals more often, which is what many practitioners believe is better for sustained weight loss and keeping the metabolism stimulated throughout the day.

Dr. C.L. Cruz, in his book, “Dictionary of the Plants Used in Brazil,” recommends that Chá de Bugre be used as an excellent diuretic and weight loss aid as well as a good general heart tonic, which can help stimulate circulation.

A Japanese University study in 1990 showed that the consumption of Chá de Bugre leaf extracts reduced herpes virus dispersion by 99% when they used it to pre-treat cells. A couple of years later, they reported a 33% reduction in the Herpes Virus with as little as 0.25 mcg/ml. The study also revealed a toxic activity against cancer cells (demonstrating 40 percent inhibition) utilizing the extract of Chá de Bugre’s branches and leaves.

CoEnzyme Q10

Acai berryTop 5 Reasons to Add Coenzyme Q10 to Your Diet

  1. Help protect against congestive heart failure
  2. Contributes to greater health and longevity
  3. Boost energy and speed recovery from exercise
  4. Help lower blood pressure
  5. Potent antioxidant

First discovered in 1957, Coenzyme Q10, or simply CoQ10, is found in virtually every cell in the human body but is found in the highest concentration in the heart. This nutrient aids mitochondria, the area of cells where energy is produced, in the complex process synthesize ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy on which the body runs.

Coenzyme Q10 is found in fish, meats and in vegetables, but they must be consumed raw, fresh and unprocessed. The body converts food to Coenzyme Q10 through a complex 17 step process that requires at least seven vitamins (vitamin B2 - riboflavin, vitamin B3 - niacinamide, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and pantothenic acid) and several trace elements. Scientist agree that suboptimal nutrient intake is a universal problem and that directly impacts the body's ability to maintain healthy levels of CoQ10.

Since coenzyme Q10 and cholesterol are both synthesized from the same substance, mevalonate, statin drugs (Lipitor, Zocor, etc) also inhibit the body's synthesis of coenzyme Q10. This is not a "side effect," of statins, but a direct, inherent function of the drugs. In fact, the use of statins can decrease the body's synthesis of coenzyme Q10 by as much as 40%!

Its importance to the human heart is illustrated by the fact that the heart may cease to function as coenzyme Q10 levels fall by 75%.

People that are more likely to have CoQ10 deficiencies;

  • Long-duration endurance exercisers
  • Patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or low HDL cholesterol
  • People taking high cholesterol pills (the statin drugs in particular)
  • People taking beta-blockers (drugs which slow the heart rate and lower blood pressure)
  • People that avoiding red meat and vegans
  • People in their forties and beyond
  • Victims of stroke and neurodegenerative diseases

Coenzyme Q10 deficiency have been linked to;

  • Periodontal disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Huntington's disease
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Mitochondrial disorders
  • Cancer

Coenzyme Q10 is a nutrient which has been found to be beneficial for a surprising variety of health problems.

Coenzyme Q10 prevents arteriosclerosis by reducing the accumulation of oxidized fats in blood vessels, eases high blood pressure, regulates the rhythm of the heart, and improves chest pain and exercise toleration in angina patients.

Clinical trial of the compound coenzyme Q10 suggest that it can slow down disease progression in patients with early-stage Parkinson's disease. While the findings must be confirmed in a larger study, they provide hope that coenzyme Q10 may ultimately provide a new way of treating Parkinson's disease.

It is also said to boost energy and speed recovery from exercise.

CoQ10 in reduces myocardial damage due to heart attack or open-heart surgery, and collective evidence shows a promising role in reducing high blood pressure

CoQ10 helps the immune system and may be useful as a secondary treatment for cancer. Three studies examined the use of CoQ10 along with conventional treatment for cancer. The three studies contained a total of 41 women with breast cancer. In each study, the women improved.

CoQ10 also acts as an anti-oxidant independently, protecting against DNA damage and other forms of oxidative damage caused by the consumption of excess polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Researchers have explored the effects of coenzyme Q10 supplementation in people with periodontal disease, which has been linked to coenzyme Q10 deficiency. Double-blind studies show that people with gum disease given coenzyme Q10 achieve better results than those given a placebo.

Club Moss

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Club Moss to you diet.

  1. * Improving the cognitive abilities of alzheimer's patients
  2. * Strong anti-inflammatory
  3. * In treating chronic kidney problem
  4. * Eases indigestion and reduces gastric inflammation
  5. * Eases many bladder related conditions

Club Moss is a moss-like evergreen plant with spores in club-shaped strobiles, and despite the name, it is not technically a moss, but a plant similar to ferns. Club Moss is a descendant of primitive plants that once dominated the Earth, growing nearly one hundred feet in height during the Carboniferous Era of about 360-286 million years ago. Modern Club Moss, which is a creeping plant, is much smaller in size, usually growing no higher than four inches or longer than ten feet and grows with bright green leaves and scaly spikes.

Club moss can help with learning, memory and other functions often weakened during Alzheimer's disease. Club moss has been used as a supplement to improve these same area even without the onset of alzheimers patients for many years in both European and Asian natural medicine practices.

Club Moss is considered a digestive aid and stomachic that strengthens the function of the stomach, and as such, it has been used to aid digestion and ease gastritis.

Club moss was officially listed in the United States Pharmacopœia as a treatment for irritability of the bladder.

Club Moss has been used for many years as an effective herbal diuretic that eases many conditions associated with suppressed urine, including the flushing of stone from the kidneys and gallbladder, accumulation of fluids in the tissues that produce swelling (edema), bladder irritation, cystitis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also thought to be an antispasmodic and nervine that helps to calm spasms, diarrhea and dysentery.

Fucoxanthin Seaweed Extract

classic - immune - focus

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Fucoxanthin Seaweed Extract to your diet:

  1. Aids in reducing body weight and body fat
  2. Improves joint function and joint comfort
  3. Activates liver to generate a certain DHA, as it lowers your cholesterol level
  4. Provides powerful antioxidant protection for your entire body
  5. Promotes normal cholesterol levels

Fucoxanthin is a natural compound found in edible brown seaweed. For hundreds of years Asian cultures have consumed seaweed as a regular part of their diet. When researchers realized Asian cultures were much healthier than those in the west, Asian diets were examined. The ocean is an excellent source of nutrient rich plants compared to land based plants that are affected by depleted nutrient levels in our soils. Brown seaweed was one of the food sources that interested these researchers and Fucoxanthin was found to be a benefit of this diet.

Fucoxanthin is rich in vitamins and minerals that include calcium, magnesium, potassium, iodine, iron, and zinc, as well as vitamins C, B1, B2, B6 and B12.

Fucoxanthin belongs to a special class of carotenoids known as xanthophylls, which are known to stimulate the proteins that cause fat oxidation in the stomach. Additionally, Fucoxanthin studies indicate that it stimulates the liver to produce the omega-3 fatty acid. Thus, it may combat bad cholesterol.

Clinical studies have shown the following remarkable results:

  • Improvement in mental alertness, circulation, joint function, energy, and cardiovascular health
Safely boosts cellular metabolism without side effects
Balances insulin and blood glucose levels
Promotes the loss of abdominal fat
    May help fight diabetes

Some metabolic and nutritional studies indicate that Fucoxanthin promotes the loss of abdominal fat by targeting a protein that increases the rate at which fat is burned. Research is ongoing.

Therefore, Fucoxanthin is conducive to building a healthy lifestyle and maintaining stable vitality.

Green Tea

classic - immune - focus

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Green Tea to your diet:

  1. Reduces the mortality rate due to cardiovascular disease
  2. Lowers “bad” LDL cholesterol
  3. Provides protection from cancer-causing substances
  4. Boosts metabolism and burns calories
  5. Promotes concentration and clarity of mind

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one." (Ancient Chinese Proverb)

Green, Oolong, and Black Tea all come from the leaf of the camellia sinensis plant. It is the processes after the leaves are harvested that differentiates between the teas. Green Tea leaves are lightly steamed and retain the most nutrients. The Chinese have been using Green Tea for its medicinal benefits for at least 4,000 years and it is still recognized as an elixir for good health.

Compounds in Green Tea:

Green Tea contains polyphenols, phytochemicals, amino acids (L-Theanine), chlorophyll, carotenoids, tocopherols, ascorbic acid, minerals, and trace elements.

The polyphenols, a large group of plant chemicals that includes the catechins, are thought to be responsible for the health benefits that have traditionally been attributed to tea, especially Green Tea. The most active and abundant catechin in Green Tea is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Milligram for milligram, EGCG has 25 to 100 times the antioxidant power of vitamins C and E. EGCG kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.

EGCG has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels (Green Tea has been shown to be as potent as Lipitor, Zocor, or Crestin with none of their side effects), lowering serum triglyceride levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

EGCG has also been shown to protect brain cells and may help minimize the brain damage that occurs after a stroke. In one study, researchers concluded that Green Tea catechins efficiently protect the brain from irreversible damage due to cerebral ischemia and consequent neurologic deficits.

According to a survey released by the United States Department of Agriculture in 2007, the mean content of flavonoids in a cup of Green Tea is higher than that in the same volume of other food and drink items that are traditionally considered to be of a health contributing nature, including fresh fruits, vegetable juices, or wine. Flavonoids are a group of phytochemicals in most plant products that are responsible for such health effects as anti-oxidative and anti-carcinogenic functions.

Green Tea drinkers appear to have a lower risk of a wide range of diseases, from simple bacterial or viral infections to chronic degenerative conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke, periodontal disease, and osteoporosis (greater bone marrow density). Green Tea may also help reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes by inhibiting amylase, an enzyme that breaks down starch into sugar, while improving insulin secretion.

Additionally Green Tea has been shown to enhance immunity in our bodies, help prevent aging, prevent cholesterol absorption in the digestive tract, be an effective flu treatment, augment fat oxidation, improve artery function, help prevent tooth decay (kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque), reverse DNA damage, aid memory and cognitive functions, and act as a metabolic stimulant.

Hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking Green Tea is provided by scientific research in both Asia and the West. Green Tea seems to be one of the most researched foods available today. Thousands of studies are available with hundreds more being performed every year. The following is a very small sampling of research studies from a wide variety of sources.

The Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer by nearly sixty percent.

The University of Purdue researchers concluded that a compound in Green Tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells.

The University of Shizuoka used people with high chances of developing colds and flu as their main respondents. These people were asked to gargle Green Tea at least 3 times per day. During the end of the experiment, it was found out that the respondents’ chances of contracting colds and the flu was reduced.

The Archives of Internal Medicine published a study that showed a 46%-65% reduction in hypertension risk in regular consumers of green tea, compared to non-consumers of tea.

University of Kansas researchers determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent of them are smokers.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and Green Tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that “a higher consumption of Green Tea is associated with a lower prevalence of cognitive impairment in humans."

Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a study that concluded that "Green Tea consumption is associated with reduced mortality due cardiovascular disease."

The Journal of the American Dietetic Association showed that Green Tea trimmed 5 to 6 points more from people's total cholesterol and "bad" LDL cholesterol levels than dummy capsules or other treatments.

Carcinogenesis (Sun CL et al) published a meta-analysis of 13 studies that suggest that Green Tea reduces the risk of breast cancer. In this study, compared to women who did not drink Green Tea, those who consumed the most Green Tea were 22% less likely to develop breast cancer.

The European Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study that found that tea is a healthier choice than almost any beverage, including pure water, because tea not only rehydrates as well as water, but provides a rich supply of polyphenols, which protect against heart disease.

The Journal of Nutrition published a series of experiments that revealed that the mixture of catechins naturally found in a dose of Green Tea dependently inhibits the activity of pancreatic lipase, the enzyme secreted by the pancreas that digests fat. As a result, both the rate at which the body breaks down fats into triglycerides and the rise of triglyceride levels in the bloodstream that occurs after meals are greatly slowed.

The Institute of Child Health research focused on EGCG's ability to block the action of the protein, STAT-1. Normally activated in cells after a heart attack or stroke, STAT-1 plays a major role in inducing cell death. Not only does Green Tea minimize heart cell death after a heart attack or stroke, ECGC also appears to speed up heart cells' recovery from damage, allowing the tissues to recover more quickly and alleviating damage to organs.
The International Journal of Cancer published a study that showed that women with ovarian cancer who drank at least 1 cup of green tea daily had a 56% lowered risk of death during the 3 years of the study compared to non-tea drinkers.

The BMC Pharmacology study, in which oral glucose tolerance tests were given to healthy humans after they consumed Green Tea, showed that it increased the body's ability to utilize blood sugar.

University of Tokyo studies have shown that drinking Green Tea may significantly increase bone mineral density.

Many studies have found an association between consuming Green Tea and a reduced risk for several cancers, including skin, breast, lung, colon, esophageal, and bladder. For cancer prevention, the evidence is so overwhelming that the Chemoprevention Branch of the National Cancer Institute has initiated a plan for developing tea compounds as chemo preventive agents in human trials.

In addition, in a study of 133 heavy smokers — who are exposed to DNA damage from smoking — four months of drinking four cups (8 ounces each) of decaffeinated green tea daily reduced the signs of DNA damage by 31 percent.

Vitamin B

classic - immune - focus

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to include Vitamin B in your diet:

  1. Supports the nervous system
    Boosts natural energy
Aids in cell formation and cellular longevity
    Promotes a healthy cardiovascular system
    Assists with memory and learning

Vitamin B-12 helps the body to metabolize carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats. It also aids in the function of all healthy body cells, especially nerve, red blood, and brain cells. RevvNRG provides more than four times the vitamin B-12 found in the leading multi-vitamins.

Vitamin B12 is the most complex of the vitamins and is the only naturally-occurring organic compound that contains cobalt.

Cyanocobalamin is the principal and most stable form of vitamin B12 and is most commonly used for foods and in nutritional supplements.
Cyanocobalamin has a variety of vital functions such as: energy production, nervous system function in the production of myelin, the protective sheath around nerves, and the production of a neurotransmitter that helps with memory and with learning.

Cyanocobalamin is usually prescribed by physicians:

  • treat gastric bypass patients (who have had part of their small intestine bypassed, making it difficult for B12 to be absorbed via food or vitamins.) ensure that there are adequate levels of vitamin B12 in the bloodstream after surgical removal of part or all of the stomach or intestine treat pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency due to a low intake from food.) treat thyrotoxicosis, hemorrhage, malignancy, and liver or kidney disease. perform the Schilling test in order to check a person's ability to absorb vitamin B12.

People can get enough Vitamin B12 in their diet, but may still have a deficiency due to certain health conditions. These conditions would include: poor nutrition, stomach/intestinal problems, infections, cancer, etc. Considering the fact that these conditions are almost the norm in today’s world of fast food and nutritionally bankrupt foods, Vitamin B12 supplementation is a must. If severe deficiency does occur, it may result in anemia, severe stomach problems, and nerve damage.

Vitamin B12 works with other vitamins for even greater overall results. When coupled with vitamin B9 (Folate), it regulates the formation of red blood cells and helps iron function better in the body. It is also important for the activity of certain enzymes, special substances that speed up reactions in the body, within cells that control fat and amino acids, and metabolize carbohydrates. In conjunction with Folate, they strengthen the production of DNA and RNA. Along with folic acid, they reduce the risk of heart disease and Osteoporosis by helping to control homocysteine levels. Finally, Vitamin B12 accompanies calcium, B6, and iron in assisting in just about every function of the body.

Yacon Root

Acai berryTop Five Reasons to Add Yacon to your Diet

  1. A sweetener that does not elevate blood glucose
    Helps reduce blood glucose levels
    A prebiotic
Aids in the absorption of calcium and magnesium
    Good source of potassium

Yacon Root is a tasty, potato like root vegetable native to the lower Andean region of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Another name for the yacón is Peruvian ground apple. A relative of the sunflower and Jerusalem artichoke, yacon root stands alone in its health properties. Yacon contains important quantities of potassium and antioxidants while maintaining a high mineral content and low sugar content. Additionally yacon contains tryptophan, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, protocatechuic, ferulic acids.

While most roots store carbohydrates as starch, yacon stores carbohydrates as fructooligosacaride (FOS).. FOS (40% - 70% of Yacon carbohydrates are FOS) is a short chain of fructose molecules with a natural, mildly sweet taste with very low caloric load. Yacon root is commonly used as an alternative sweetener that controls blood sugar level, proving to be successful with weight management. Other FOS benefits noted include increased absorption of calcium and magnesium, improved elimination of toxic compounds and an increase in bone density as shown in preclinical studies. Moreover, some studies indicate that FOS reduces cholesterol levels, strengthens the immune system and reduces carcinogen lesions in the colon.

After years of clinical research throughout Europe, Americas and Japan FOS production has reached a sizable scale in the mid 1990's, and is now used in many famous brands of health foods and used as a component in medicinal teas.

Health Benefits:

Yacon can also serve as a prebiotic when the undigested portion acts as food for “friendly” bacteria, such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus, in the colon.

Additionally, yacon contains polyphenols with anti-oxidant activity associated with the prevention of cancer and arteriosclerosis.

Yerba Mate

classic - immune - focus

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Yerba Maté to your diet

  1. Sustained energy levels and reduced fatigue
  2. Increased focus and creativity
  3. Rejuvenation and an increased libido
  4. Controlled appetite
  5. Balanced sleep patterns

Yerba Maté is a small tree native to the subtropical highlands of Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. The tea is brewed from the dried leaves and stems of this perennial tree. Yerba Maté is known as the national drink of these countries, and is consumed by millions of South Americans as a healthy alternative to coffee. This stimulating herbal beverage has the unique ability to wake up the mind without the nervousness and jitters associated with coffee. Yerba Maté, "The Drink of the Gods," possesses a multitude of health benefits and has been used as a base for herbal medicines for centuries.

The chemical components of Yerba Maté are similar to those found in Green Tea. However, Yerba Maté is more nutritious. Nicknamed the "liquid vegetable," Yerba Maté has 196 volatile (or active) chemical compounds found in the Yerba Maté plant, of which 144 are also found in Green Tea. Yerba Maté has higher polyphenol and antioxidant counts than Green Tea.

Yerba Maté contains 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, 11 polyphenols (a group of phytochemicals which act as powerful antioxidants) and 3 saponins (phytochemicals that have been found to specifically stimulate the immune system).

Some of these are as follows:

  • Vitamins: A, C, E, B1, B2, niacin (B3), B5, and B complex
  • Minerals: calcium, manganese, iron, selenium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and
  • Additional compounds: theophylline, theobromine, caffeine, carotene, fatty acids, chlorophyll, flavonols, polyphenols, inositol, trace minerals, antioxidants, tannins, pantothenic acid and 15 amino acids.

Yerba Maté s polyphenolic compounds found in Maté tea differ significantly from Green Tea because Maté tea contains a high concentration of chlorogenic acid and no catechins. As a result, Maté consumption complements Green/Black Tea use quite well.

The Pasteur Institute and the Paris Scientific society concluded that "it is difficult to find a plant in any area of the world equal to Yerba Maté in nutritional value" and that Yerba Maté contains "practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life."

Heath Benefits:

Weight Loss

Peace Corps workers have reported that they found cases in which large groups of natives remained in good health, though they had only consumed one small meal per day, especially through extended periods of famine and drought. It was discovered that they survived by drinking copious Maté.

Possibly, part of the reason for the effectiveness of Yerba Maté weight loss methods is that the consumption of the product helps to make a person feel full sooner during meals. Many report that Yerba Maté, if taken several times a day, especially shortly before meals, leads to less food being eaten because of the sensation of fullness.

Additionally, for those individuals who are prone to binge eating, the mental stimulation properties acquired by consuming Yerba Maté could help to suppress this type of overeating.

Non-Jittery Energy

Nonetheless, the big draw for most Yerba Maté enthusiasts is the promise of a “clean” caffeine-like buzz, free of jitters and unpleasantness, which Yerba Maté provides. Drinkers report being in control of their wakefulness; they can stay up for hours, alert and “on their game,” knowing that sleep is always right around the corner – if they want it. Mateine is a stereoisomer of caffeine, thus giving it the stimulating qualities with none of the downfalls.

Good for Your Stomach

Perhaps the main area in the body to benefit from Yerba Maté is the gastrointestinal tract. We have seen that it helps the digestion, and even seems to have the ability to repair damaged and diseased gastrointestinal tissues. Constipation, acute or chronic, can be relieved by drinking lots of Yerba Maté.

It is also known for its use in balancing the gastrointestinal tract.

Additional Health Benefits:

Yerba Maté is loaded with antioxidants. WebMD notes: “The detoxifying effect of these antioxidants protects cells from free radicals, the damage that can lead to blood clot formation, atherosclerosis, and cancer,” says Weisburger. The bulk of research shows that regular tea drinkers, people who drink two cups or more a day, have less heart disease and stroke, lower total and LDL (often called “bad”) cholesterol, and that they recover from heart attacks faster.

Yerba Maté is high in chlorophyll, which helps reduce the binding of carcinogens to DNA in the liver and other organs.

It also breaks down calcium-oxalate stones (kidney stones) and can boast higher polyphenol and antioxidant counts than either Green or Black Teas.

A “Polyphenol-rich diet decreases cardiovascular risk. LDL oxidation is the primary event in atherosclerosis plaque formation and antioxidants such as polyphenols were shown to inhibit LDL oxidation and atherosclerosis development.” Incorporating more Polyphenols into your diet would be wise. It’s no surprise that Yerba Maté is loaded with polyphenols! (Kawakami, A. Kabayashi 1991)

Lab tests have suggested a host of benefits from Yerba Maté. In test tubes, the herb and its components reduce oxidative stress on heart and liver cells, protect DNA from damage in yeast cells, and kill human liver cancer cells. Additional studies show that Yerba Maté improves the flow of blood through blood vessels and reduces fat accumulation.

Yerba Maté helped prevent “the development of hyperglycemia in streptozotocin diabetes and reduced the hyperphagia, polydipsia, body weight loss, and glycated hemoglobin.” (NCBI, 27. Swanston-Flatt SK, 1989.

Yum Berry (Yang Mei Berry)

Acai berryTop 5 reasons to add Yum berry to your diet

  1. Cardiovascular System Protection
  2. Helps prevent body sugar from being converted to fat
  3. Relief and Possible Prevention Of Arthritis
  4. Protection For Eyesight
  5. Reduces LDL Cholesterol & Increase HDL (good cholesterol)

Yum Berry, also called Yang Mei, waxberry or China Bayberry, is a fruit of the wax myrtle tree. It is a spherical red dimpled fruit with a soft skin and flesh and a hard side in the middle. Yum Berry's unique flavor is mixture of many red fruits such as cranberry, cherry and pomegranate. The fruit has been harvested for thousands of years in China and used medicinally for centuries. To this day a basket of yum berry's is a popular gift of friendship in China. In China, over 865,000 acres is needed to accommodate yum berry's demand . This is about twice the 432,000 acres used in the U.S. used to grow apples.

Yum Berry is high in antioxidants, vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, C, E and folacin), thiamine, riboflavin and carotene. In addition, yang mei contains selenium (which enhances the activity of vitamin E), ellagic acid, quercetin and myricetin.

Many of the berry's health benefits come from its abundant source of OPCs (Oligomeric Proantho Cyanidins). They are the most powerful class of free-radical-scavenging antioxidants believed to support every metabolic system in the body. Twenty times more powerful than Vitamin C and 50 times more potent than Vitamin E, Yum Berry’s OPCs have also been shown to boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, help lower LDL cholesterol levels and increase strength and elasticity of blood vessels while slowing down the collapse of collagen, keeping skin firm, smooth and wrinkle free.
